Apa itu narrative text?
Narrative Text merupakan sebuah jenis teks yang menceritakan suatu cerita khayal/ fiktif dengan tujuan menghibur pembaca atau pendengar. Karena narrative text ini cerita khayal maka belum tentu kebenarannya karena mungkin itu hanya imaginasi dari orang-orang yang membuatnya.

Generic Structure of Narrative Text
# Orientation : It is about the opening paragraph where the characters of the story are introduced. (berisi pengenalan tokoh, tempat dan waktu terjadinya cerita (siapa atau apa, kapan dan dimana)
# Complication : Where the problems in the story developed. (Permasalahan muncul / mulai terjadi dan berkembang)
# Resolution : Where the problems in the story is solved. Masalah selesai, secara baik “happy ending” ataupun buruk “bad ending”.
# Coda / reorientation (optional) – lesson from the story
Language Feature of Narrative Text
– Past tense (killed, drunk, etc.)
– Adverb of time (Once upon a time, one day, etc.)
– Time conjunction (when, then, suddenly, etc.)
– Specific character. The character of the story is specific, not general. (Cinderella, Snow White, Alibaba, etc.)
– Action verbs. A verb that shows an action. (killed, dug, walked, etc.)
– Direct speech. It is to make the story lively. (Snow White said,”My name is Snow White). The direct speech uses present tense.

The Cat and The Rat story

Long ago, the God Heaven spoke to all of the animals in the world.
“Twelve animals will be chosen to protect the world. Each one will do this for a year at a time. Come to my palace on the twelfth day of the first moon. The first twelve animals to arrive will be chosen.
All of the animals waited excitedly for
the day. The Cat however was very forgetful and could not remember which day it was. So she asked the Rat, “Which day do we go to the palace in Heaven to be chosen to protect the world?” The Rat wanted to be chosen so he said to the Cat, “On the thirteenth day of first moon, we will all go to the palace.”
The Rat lived in the stable of the Ox. One evening, he heard the Ox getting ready to leave for the palace. “Why are you leaving so early?” asked the Rat.
“Oh, my feet are so clumsy and slow.” Answered the Ox, “I must go now or I won’t get there in time to be chosen.” As soon as the Ox turned to go, the Rat jumped into the bag on his back. The Ox did not know that he was carrying the Rat and he walked slowly through the night until he reached the palace. There were no other animals in front of him so he thought he must surely be the first. Just then, the Rat jumped out of the bag and ran to the gate.
“The very first is the Rat,” he called out to the Ox.
The Ox was very angry but not as angry as the Cat. She went to the palace on the thirteenth day as she had been told by the Rat. There was nobody about so she thought she must be the first. However, the guard called out to her.
“You are a day too late, Cat. The animals were chosen yesterday. First the Rat, then Ox, tiger. Hare, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Cock, Dog and last of all, Bear. You shouldn’t be so sleepy, and look how dirty your face is! You shouldn’t was it better than you do. “With that he closed the gates.
Since then, the Cat has hated the Rat and has always tried to catch him. She also keeps washing her face with her tongue because the guard told her how dirty her face was.

Dahulu kala, Dewa Langit berbicara kepada semua hewan di dunia.
“Dua belas hewan akan dipilih untuk melindungi dunia. Masing-masing akan melakukan ini selama setahun. Datanglah ke istanaku pada hari kedua belas bulan pertama. Dua belas hewan pertama yang tiba akan dipilih.
Semua hewan menunggu dengan gembira
hari itu. Namun, Kucing sangat pelupa dan tidak dapat mengingat hari apa itu. Jadi dia bertanya kepada Tikus, “Hari apa kita pergi ke istana di Surga untuk dipilih untuk melindungi dunia?” Tikus ingin dipilih jadi dia berkata kepada Kucing, “Pada hari ketiga belas bulan pertama, kita semua akan pergi ke istana.”
Tikus tinggal di kandang Sapi. Suatu malam, dia mendengar Sapi bersiap-siap untuk pergi ke istana. “Mengapa kamu pergi begitu pagi?” tanya Tikus.
“Oh, kakiku sangat kikuk dan lambat.” Jawab si Kerbau, “Aku harus pergi sekarang atau aku tidak akan sampai di sana tepat waktu untuk dipilih.” Begitu Kerbau berbalik untuk pergi, si Tikus melompat ke dalam tas di punggungnya. Kerbau tidak tahu bahwa ia sedang menggendong si Tikus dan ia berjalan perlahan sepanjang malam hingga ia mencapai istana. Tidak ada binatang lain di depannya jadi ia pikir ia pasti yang pertama. Tepat saat itu, si Tikus melompat keluar dari tas dan berlari ke gerbang.
“Yang pertama adalah si Tikus,” ia memanggil si Kerbau.
Kerbau sangat marah tetapi tidak semarah si Kucing. Ia pergi ke istana pada hari ketiga belas seperti yang telah diperintahkan oleh si Tikus. Tidak ada seorang pun di sana jadi ia pikir ia pasti yang pertama. Namun, penjaga memanggilnya.
“Kau terlambat sehari, Kucing. Binatang-binatang telah dipilih kemarin. Pertama Tikus, lalu Kerbau, harimau. Kelinci, Naga, Ular, Kuda, Domba, Monyet, Ayam, Anjing dan terakhir, Beruang. Kamu seharusnya tidak mengantuk, dan lihat betapa kotornya wajahmu! Kamu seharusnya tidak melakukannya, bukankah lebih baik daripada yang kamu lakukan. “Dengan itu dia menutup gerbang.
Sejak saat itu, si Kucing membenci si Tikus dan selalu berusaha menangkapnya. Dia juga terus mencuci wajahnya dengan lidahnya karena penjaga mengatakan kepadanya betapa kotornya wajahnya.
