“In addition, this village is also close to several tourist areas which are quite crowded, so it is necessary to strengthen disaster mitigation in the form of socialization,” said Supriyanto as quoted from a press release received by Beritasatu, Friday (12/02/2021).
In an event themed “Socialization and Simulation of the University of Indonesia Disaster Mitigation School (SEMIBEN UI)”, Supriyanto and his team conveyed knowledge to the participants about the potential for disasters in Sukabumi Regency and steps to deal with the impact of the disaster. The type of activity undertaken is to disseminate potential disasters from a geological and geophysical perspective, but with an approach that is easy for the public to understand.
Acting Chief Executive of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Anita Mulyani, said that Sukabumi Regency has the potential for complex disasters, such as landslides, tsunamis, earthquakes, and tornadoes. He assessed that the socialization activities from UI were very helpful in instilling understanding as early as possible in the community.
“The area where we live is prone to natural disasters, so this program is very important as public knowledge of disaster preparedness,” said Anita.
In the event, the UI community service team demonstrated to the participants in order to understand in more detail the causes of earth movements that trigger earthquakes. The presentations also included questions, videos, and daily analogies related to disasters to facilitate and increase understanding. For example, a question about what to carry in your bag as soon as possible in the event of a disaster. In addition, participants were invited to practice and sing songs that describe self-protection when an earthquake occurs.
