Ok, In this post I will give you a little explanation about Narrative Text.
I am sure you must be often to tell the story that you just hear, watch or even your own imaginative story to someone, good friends, relatives, parents, etc. Well, actually what we do when telling the story we experienced is an applicative example of the Narrative Text.
Ok, I will tell the definition of Narrative text. It is “An imaginative story to entertain the reader” For example, Cinderella, Snow White, Monkey and Crocodiles, Malin Kundang, The Legend of Tangkuban Prahu Montain, etc.
Then, Kinds of Narrative Text are Fable, Fairly Tales, Folktales, Legend, Mith. That’s a brief description of Narrative text from me.
But, In this time I will not give you a complete explanation about Narrative Text, Here I just want to share an example of Narrative text, because if we read many example of it, we will have a better understanding about it. We will also have some collection of story that we can tell to our students, friends, family, or our children.

The Man and the Crocodile Story
(Folktale from Malaysia)
A man was hurrying along a river bank. “Help, Help! Please have pity on me.” He looked all around him. Then he stared. It was a crocodile. There were tears streaming down its cheeks. It could not move because a tree had fallen on top of it and pinned its tail to the ground.
The man said, “look, Mr. Crocodile, If I release you, will you eat me up?”
“No, no. how could I be so ungrateful?” said the crocodile.
The man pulled the tree off the crocodile’s tail. The crocodile quickly twisted round and seized the men by the leg.
“Wait!” the man cried, very frightened. “Let’s ask my friend, Mr. Mousedeer, whether this is the right way for you to repay my kindness.”
When the mousedeer arrived he pretended that he did not believe the story that the man told him.
“I can’t believe that you would be so good to Mr. crocodiles,” he said. “Probably you were trying to harm him and he caught hold of you. Er … er, Mr. Crocodile, would you please show me where you were lying when the man came along?”
“Why, certainly,” said the crocodile. “I was here.”
Ah he let go of the man, the mousedeer shouted to the man to drop a log on the crocodile. The crocodile could not move.
The man bowed and thanked the clever mousedeer.
“Ah,” said the mousedeer, “Don’t try to be too kind. It’s man’s nature to be ungrateful,”
He called out to an old sleeping-mat that was floating in midstream. “Hai there, old mat, what’s the reward for those who do kind acts?”
“Mr. Mousedeer,” answered the mat, “just look at me. Once I was bright and new. Now that I am old you can see what has happened to me.”
And then an empty cooking pot floated past. The mousedeer asked it the same question and receive the same reply.

Cerita Manusia dan Buaya
(Cerita Rakyat dari Malaysia)
Seorang pria sedang tergesa-gesa di sepanjang tepi sungai. “Tolong, tolong! Kasihanilah aku.” Dia melihat sekelilingnya. Lalu dia menatap. Itu adalah seekor buaya. Ada air mata mengalir di pipinya. Dia tidak bisa bergerak karena sebuah pohon telah jatuh di atasnya dan menjepit ekornya ke tanah.
Pria itu berkata, “Lihat, Tuan Buaya, jika aku melepaskanmu, apakah kamu akan memakanku?”
“Tidak, tidak. Bagaimana mungkin aku begitu tidak tahu terima kasih?” kata buaya.
Pria itu menarik pohon dari ekor buaya. Buaya itu dengan cepat berbalik dan mencengkeram kaki pria itu.
“Tunggu!” teriak pria itu, sangat ketakutan. “Mari kita tanyakan pada temanku, Tuan Kancil, apakah ini cara yang tepat bagimu untuk membalas kebaikanku.”
Ketika kancil tiba, dia berpura-pura tidak percaya cerita yang diceritakan pria itu kepadanya.
“Aku tidak percaya kamu akan begitu baik kepada Tuan Buaya,” katanya. “Mungkin Anda mencoba menyakitinya dan dia menangkap Anda. Er … er, Tuan Buaya, tolong tunjukkan di mana Anda berbaring saat lelaki itu datang?”
“Tentu saja,” kata buaya. “Saya di sini.”
Ah, dia melepaskan lelaki itu, kancil berteriak kepada lelaki itu untuk menjatuhkan sebatang kayu ke buaya. Buaya itu tidak bisa bergerak.
Pria itu membungkuk dan berterima kasih kepada kancil yang pintar.
“Ah,” kata kancil, “Jangan mencoba bersikap terlalu baik. Sudah menjadi sifat manusia untuk tidak tahu berterima kasih,”
Dia memanggil tikar tidur tua yang terapung di tengah sungai. “Hai, tikar tua, apa pahala bagi mereka yang berbuat baik?”
“Tuan Kancil,” jawab tikar, “lihat saja saya. Dulu saya masih muda dan cemerlang. Sekarang setelah saya tua, Anda dapat melihat apa yang telah terjadi pada saya.”
Dan kemudian sebuah panci masak kosong terapung lewat. Si kancil menanyakan pertanyaan yang sama dan menerima jawaban yang sama.
