This time I will share an example of narrative text that the story is very interesting and full of moral value. I’m sure my friend has understood about this text because this text has been delivered to the students in Junior High School and repeated again in Senior High School.

Ok, In this post I will give you a little explanation about Narrative Text.
I am sure you must be often to tell the story that you just hear, watch or even your own imaginative story to someone, good friends, relatives, parents, etc. Well, actually what we do when telling the story we experienced is an applicative example of the Narrative Text.
Ok, I will tell the definition of Narrative text. It is “An imaginative story to entertain the reader” For example, Cinderella, Snow White, Monkey and Crocodiles, Malin Kundang, The Legend of Tangkuban Prahu Montain, etc.
Then, Kinds of Narrative Text are Fable, Fairly Tales, Folktales, Legend, Mith. That’s a brief description of Narrative text from me.
But, In this time I will not give you a complete explanation about Narrative Text, Here I just want to share an example of Narrative text, because if we read many example of it, we will have a better understanding about it. We will also have some collection of story that we can tell to our students, friends, family, or our children.

Contoh Narrative Text Folktale
Ratna Lestari and Bakuh Raksasa
A long time ago, there was a mean giant. And every time he wanted to eat, he always looked for the animals. He ate almost all kinds of animals. And of course, the animals did not live peacefully. They were scared Bakuh would eat them.
Slowly, the numbers of animals were decreasing. And finally there was no animal left in the jungle. Bakuh started to go to the villages. He wanted to eat humans!
The gods and the goddess in the heaven were angry. They wanted to punish Bakuh. Therefore they sent one beautiful goddess. Her name was Retna Lestari.
Bakuh was walking when he saw Retna Lestari picking some flowers. He was surprised to see a beautiful woman in the jungle. He fell in love instantly. “Hello, beautiful girl. What’s your name? I never saw you before,” said Bakuh.
“My name is Retna Lestari. And of course you never saw me. I always ran and saved my life when you were hungry. I hope now you are not hungry,” said Retna Lestari.
“Don’t be afraid, Retna. I will never eat you. You are so beautiful and I’m in love with you. Will you marry me?” asked Bakuh.
“What? No way! I will never marry a mean giant like you.”
“l’ll do anything for you, Retna.”
“Anything? OK.I wants to have red clouds during sunset. But I don’t want you to get it for me. I don’t want your sharp nails to tear the clouds.”
“So, what do I have to do?”
“Simple. You just lie down with your face downward. I will stand on your back I hope I can reach the clouds.”
And then Bakuh lied down with his face downward. And when Retna Lestari was already standing on his back, she said, “I cannot reach the clouds. I will put some big stone on your back. I want to stand on the stones so I can reach the clouds.”
“Can you reach the clouds now?” asked Bakuh.
“Not yet, I will put more stones on your body. And remember, don’t move your body. If you do, I will , fall.” said Retna Lestari.
She immediately put more stones. This time she put bigger stones. With her power as a goddess, she could put the big stones easily.
Slowly, all Bakuh’s body was covered by stones. Retna Lestari put two very big stones, one on his head and one on his feet. Bakuh could not breathe. He wanted to stand up but he could not do it. He then realized that Retna Lestari already tricked him. He just yelled and screamed!
Slowly the two big stones became mountains. The big stone on Bakuh’s head became Merapi Mountain and the big stone on his feet became Merbabu Mountain.
People now say that when they hear a rumbling noise from the mountains, they believe that Baku is yelling and screaming. He is cursing Retna Lestari for tricking him. ***
Terjemahan
Ratna Lestari dan Bakuh Raksasa
Dulu, ada raksasa yang jahat. Dan setiap kali ia ingin makan, ia selalu mencari binatang. Dia makan hampir semua jenis binatang. Dan tentu saja, hewan tidak hidup dengan damai. Mereka takut Bakuh akan memakannya.
Perlahan, jumlah hewan menurun. Dan akhirnya tidak ada binatang yang tertinggal di hutan. Bakuh mulai pergi ke desa. Dia ingin makan manusia!
Dewa dan dewi di surga marah. Mereka ingin menghukum Bakuh. Oleh karena itu mereka mengirim satu dewi yang cantik. Namanya Retna Lestari.
Bakuh sedang berjalan saat melihat Retna Lestari memetik beberapa bunga. Ia terkejut melihat seorang wanita cantik di hutan. Dia langsung jatuh cinta. “Halo, gadis cantik, siapa namamu? Aku tidak pernah melihatmu sebelumnya,” kata Bakuh.
“Nama saya Retna Lestari Dan tentu saja Anda tidak pernah melihat saya, saya selalu berlari dan menyelamatkan hidup saya saat Anda lapar Saya harap sekarang Anda tidak lapar,” kata Retna Lestari.
“Jangan takut, Retna, aku tidak akan pernah memakanmu, kamu sangat cantik dan aku mencintaimu, maukah kamu menikah denganku?” tanya Bakuh.
“Tidak, saya tidak akan pernah menikahi raksasa jahat seperti Anda.”
“Aku akan melakukan apa saja untukmu, Retna.”
“Ada saja? OK. Saya ingin memiliki awan merah saat matahari terbenam, tapi saya tidak ingin Anda mendapatkannya untuk saya, saya tidak ingin kuku tajam Anda merobek awan.”
“Jadi, apa yang harus saya lakukan?”
“Sederhana, Anda hanya berbaring dengan wajah menghadap ke bawah, saya akan berdiri di atas punggung Anda, saya harap saya bisa mencapai awan.”
Dan kemudian Bakuh berbaring dengan mukanya ke bawah. Dan saat Retna Lestari sudah berdiri di punggungnya, dia berkata, “Saya tidak bisa mencapai awan, saya akan menaruh batu besar di punggung Anda, saya ingin berdiri di atas batu-batu itu sehingga saya bisa mencapai awan.”
“Bisakah Anda mencapai awan sekarang?” tanya Bakuh.
“Belum, saya akan meletakkan lebih banyak batu ke tubuh Anda dan ingat, jangan gerakkan tubuh Anda jika Anda melakukannya, saya akan jatuh.” kata Retna Lestari.
Dia segera menaruh lebih banyak batu. Kali ini dia menaruh batu yang lebih besar. Dengan kekuatannya sebagai dewi, dia bisa meletakkan batu-batu besar dengan mudah.
Perlahan, seluruh tubuh Bakuh ditutupi oleh batu. Retna Lestari meletakkan dua batu yang sangat besar, satu di atas kepalanya dan satu di kakinya. Bakuh tak bisa bernapas. Dia ingin berdiri tapi dia tidak bisa melakukannya. Dia kemudian menyadari bahwa Retna Lestari sudah menipunya. Dia hanya berteriak dan menjerit!
Perlahan dua batu besar itu menjadi gunung. Batu besar di atas kepala Bakuh menjadi Gunung Merapi dan batu besar di kakinya menjadi Gunung Merbabu.
Orang sekarang mengatakan bahwa ketika mereka mendengar suara gemuruh dari pegunungan, mereka percaya bahwa Baku berteriak dan menjerit. Dia mengutuk Retna Lestari karena telah menipunya. ***
